about us

a simple, tasty and healthy culinary experience

In the emblematic Barrio Amón, right in the historical center of San José, Café Rojo is a cafeteria, restaurant and meeting space that offers a simple, tasty and healthy culinary experience; inclusive for vegans and people who want to eat without gluten.

Our dishes are inspired by Vietnamese food and are made with fresh products, mostly from small local producers. Our cafeteria offers specialty coffees with syrups and homemade preparations, and all our pastries are made by us. We also offer you vegetable milk and vegan pastries.

 Casa Pagés

Although symmetry is rare in Victorian architecture, the Pagés house where we are located, built at the beginning of the 20th century, shows this characteristic along with others typical features of that frequent aesthetic in the Amón neighborhood.

Thus, for example, from the front wall and fence, Victorian designs characterize it, as does the front corridor with its columns and decorated corbels and where access is marked by the central body of the second level.

This is a pure volume, with a double arched window and wooden corbels that support the eaves with a valance, before giving way to the gable decorated with moldings, a skylight that provides ventilation to the attic and, pointing to the sky, a crest of wrought iron and whimsical design.

Who we are

We are a family restaurant and a small team, which allows us to give special attention to each and every person who walks through our doors.

We started this adventure in 2014 and since then we've opened every day convinced of giving an honest, warm and flavorful experience.
